Source : Solvent Extraction from the Lichen – Produced in India

Origin :  India

This is extracted from the Lichen grown on the Oakmoss Tree. It has very Dark Green colour & has the Mossy odour.

Blends well with  : Most woody oils and Anise, Bay, Bergamot, Clary Sage, Eucalyptus, Ginger, Lavender, Lime, Orange, Palmarosa, Tea Tree, Vetiver, Ylang Ylang

Chemical Constituents :  Methyl B-orcinolcarboxylate, Ethyl Everninate, Ethyl Hematonmate, Ethyl Chlorohematommate

IFRA Compliance : This product has recently been Blacklisted to being a potential irritant & been restricted to 0.1% in perfumery

Consistency : Medium to thick

Aroma : Medium.

Oakmoss absolute has Rich, Earthy & Woody Smell. Used widely in Perfumery to add masculine notes to the blends.

Oakmoss Oil was widely used in Wound Healing

Oak moss has been widely used for Hundreds of years as an ingredient which was and still is loved by most perfumers around the world. Its Latin name is Evernia prunastri (actually Lichen that grows on Oaks throughout Europe, North Africa & in the Indian sub-continent.

The Colour can vary from Light Green to Black depending upon if it grows in dry or damp conditions. It May Not look good, but smells amazing. 

Odour : Oakmoss smells Earthy and woody. It also has hints of Musk & Amber.

It also acts as a fixative (to give perfumes extra longer life on skin) and thus a perfumers delight. You could actually smell some dampness and smell of forest in perfumes.

The restriction has caused issues for many Big Labs & manufacturers around the world as they had to remove this from their perfumes

Some companies have started using Patchouli as an alternative.

Oakmoss should not be confused with Tree Moss (Evernia Furfuracea) which grows on the Pine Trees, which has a turpentine smell to it.

Oak moss is a highly priced ingredient among perfumers around the world.
