Chemical Constituents : Coumarins, vaginatin, selinidin, vaginol, vaginidin and archangelone.

Action / Karma
- Tridoshahara: Pacifies all the three doshas
- Vedanahara: Gives relief in Vedna or Pain.
- Rakshoghna: Protects against diseases
- Keshya: Nourishes and improves hair condition.
- Vranashodhana: Wound cleaning.
Properties :
- Analgesic: Pain relieving.
- Antispasmodic: Relieve spasm of involuntary muscle.
- Aromatic: Pleasant and distinctive smell.
- Carminative: Relieves flatulence.
- CNS-Depressant: Slow brain activity. This property makes them useful for treating anxiety and sleep disorders.
- Emmenagouge: Stimulates or increases menstrual flow.
- Hypotensive: Lower blood pressure.
- Nervine sedative: Nerve Tonic, calms nerves.
Other Uses
- The rhizome is used for fumigation to ward off ghosts and spirits.
- The rhizomes are used for liquor preparation.
- The roots are aromatic and used as incense or Dhoop.
